Panimaya Jeffreena Miranda, a second year M.Tech. Biotechnology student, secured the first prize in poster presentation under the category of life science at the 5th Indian Youth Science Congress held at Kolkatta, Santiniketan from December 6 to 9, 2013. She is currently doing her M. Tech. project work under the guidance of Dr. N.Selvamurugan, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, School of Bioengineering. Jeffreena is working on regulation of breast cancer by microRNAs as part of her M.Tech. project. microRNAs are the small intronic sequence which control more than 60% of the life process, hence their role in cancer can not be neglected. She presented a poster on “Regulation of breast cancer mediated bone metastasis by microRNAs”.
Amidst the challenge in presenting her poster among many other plant biotechnology research works, she was skillful enough to attract the audience towards this molecular medicine research work. Not only in explaining her project to the judges but she very well delivered the message for the need of breast cancer screening to each of the audience. As a post graduate student she always shows a dedicated interest in her project work and excels in each stage of study, which has helped her to present her work at the national level conference and bag the first prize.
