SRM University entered into an MOU with Queen's University, Ontario, Canada on 15th Feb 2006 for a collaborative Project work towards developing a Population Health Registry. When completed, this registry will be comprehensive and geo-referenced to capture the key demographic and environmental data of 60 villages surrounding SRM over a period of three years. It is expected to be a research tool capable of tracking patients longitudinally and spatially, with the capacity to examine environmental correlates of various diseases.
This project is very unique because of its multidisciplinary nature involving active participation of the Departments of Community Medicine, Public Health & Epidemiology, Information Technology, Medical admissions/ records (hospitals), GIS/ Civil Engineering, Medical Microbiology, School of Public Health and Nursing.
Dr. A.R. Chandrasekaran, Faculty - Dept.of Community Medicine is the Principal and the piloting is currently in progress in two villages.
